A person died at the Guelph COVID-19 assessment clinic Friday morning, public health has confirmed.
The person was treated on site by staff from the Guelph Family Health Team and Guelph Emergency Services, according to a news release from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health.
The health unit said it is not releasing any further details about the person out of respect for their family.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, medical officer of health.
“For members of the public who may have been at the Assessment Clinic this morning, I know this event is shocking and saddening and our thoughts are with you as well.”
The assessment clinic has closed for a thorough cleaning and will reopen on Saturday, April 25.
The clinic is located at the Victoria Road Recreation Centre in Guelph.
