Police have laid charges after a Calgary man was robbed after inviting over a woman whom he’d met through online dating.
Omar Ahmed, 31, and Anthonia Oloya, 20, have been charged with robbery with a firearm. Ahmed faces an additional charge of wearing a disguise with intent.
The man who would be robbed first met the woman through an online dating platform in January, Calgary Police Service said in a release on Monday.
Police say he invited her to meet in person on Feb. 1 at his apartment in downtown Calgary.
After she arrived, the woman then let in another man — a stranger — who had partially covered his face, police say.
Officials allege that man then pulled out what appeared to be a handgun, allowing the pair to steal “a number of items.” Police allege the two forced the man to go to an ATM to withdraw cash.
Police say they identified two suspects in the robbery in March. Ahmed was arrested for an unrelated matter, police say, and while conducting a search, police gathered evidence they say ties him to the robbery.
He is due to appear in court Monday.
Oloya was arrested on April 14 in a traffic stop. She is due to appear in court June 29.
